Activity 66:
Group ball drop
Activity summary
This activity helps players improve their movement toward the ball, aiming to catch it after one bounce in a group setting.
Activity setup
- Group of 4+ players: one feeder with a ball and the rest lining up to catch.
- Catcher queue stands 2–3 m from the feeder.
What to do:
- Feeder drops the ball (forward or to either side); first in queue lunges to catch after one bounce.
- Catcher uses racket hand, returns ball to feeder, then goes to back of queue.

Coaching Tips

- Engage your core to maintain balance and stability.
- Step far enough so knee remains over foot; avoid overreaching.
- Use soft hands on the racket to cushion the catch.
Make it easier
- Use a sponge ball and allow a two-handed catch.
Make it harder
- Require racket‐hand catches only.
- Feeder throws further or uses deceptive release.
