Coaching Tips

  • Track the ball and stay on the balls of your feet for quick positioning.
  • Prepare your racket as the ball travels toward you.
  • Maintain a relaxed grip and absorb impact for control.
  • Use a short, compact swing at waist–chest height, finishing follow-through in the shot’s direction.
  • Keep the racket face open; avoid heavy flat swings that make control difficult.

Make it easier

  • Allow two or more touches before passing on.
  • Go in turn order around the circle so players know when to expect the ball.
  • Call out the name of the player you are hitting to.
  • Allow a bounce between shots or let the ball hit the walls.

Make it harder

  • Challenge two teams against each other for most consecutive volleys or first to a set number.
  • Enlarge the circle to increase distance between players.

Safety

Use the STEP framework—Space, Time, Equipment, and People—to adapt any activity for your players.
