Activity 31:
Solo corner challenge
Activity summary
In this activity, players practice playing the ball off two walls, aiming to hit the ball midway up each wall. The focus is on control, accuracy, and movement, as players work on using both walls to position the ball effectively.
Activity setup
- Done individually in a court corner (needs two walls).
- Each player needs a racket and ball suitable for their ability.
What to do:
- The player hits the ball so it strikes both walls and then bounces on the floor, alternating forehand to backhand.
- They return it to themselves in the opposite direction, again ensuring it hits both walls.

Coaching Tips
- Adjust racket face to control shot angle so the ball hits both walls at the desired height.
- Rotate body and racket quickly, staying low to strike and direct towards the walls’ target area.
- Keep a relaxed grip for controlled touch and pace, allowing light bounces off the walls.
- Focus on smooth follow-through and early racket preparation for consistency.
Make it easier
- Remove the racket—throw the ball at the two walls to learn angles and bounces.
- Allow single-wall hits: hit forehand then collect before next attempt.
Make it harder
- Increase distance from the front corners to demand greater accuracy over longer range.
- Use a wall-mounted target to maintain consistent shot height.
- Perform without bounces (volleying off both walls).
Safety
Remember, you can use the STEP framework—Space, Time, Equipment, and People—to adapt any activity, making it easier or more challenging to suit your players.
Always check there’s enough space for everyone to participate safely, and ensure any under-18s wear protective goggles during the session.
