Activity 24: Jump on command ball balance

Activity summary

This activity focuses on improving balance, coordination, and racket control by jumping two-footed while keeping the ball balanced on the racket. It challenges players to maintain stability and focus during dynamic movement.

Activity setup

  • This activity is done individually, each player with a racket and ball suitable for their ability.
  • Use the lines of the court or throw-down lines if you have them.

What to do:

  • The coach shouts out commands (forwards, backwards, left, right).
  • Players react to each command, jumping in that direction while balancing the ball on their racket.

Coaching Tips

  • Focus on landing softly with both feet together, bending the knees to absorb the impact.
  • Keep your eyes on the ball throughout the jump and landing, maintaining a flat racket face.

  • Remove the racket and ball—focus just on the directional jumps.

  • Timed challenge: How many jumps can you do in 30 seconds without dropping the ball?
