Help talented players reach their full potential!

About this course

Whether players are mastering the basics or competing, you play a key role in their journey. This course enables candidates to analyse, develop and deliver player centred coaching and deliver plans that cover all areas of a player’s personal development.

You’ll learn through a blend of e-learning, webinars, and four full-day practical sessions over a 7 month period, giving you the confidence to deliver person-focused coaching. To complete the course and become certified, you’ll need to attend all elements, complete the online modules, and pass an assessment. Some learning must be completed beforehand to get the most from your time on court.

Who is it for?

If you’re passionate about developing talented players and have at least two years’ coaching experience, this course could be for you. It’s designed for coaches working (or aspiring to work) in talent development environments, such as junior county squads, performance clubs, or regional programmes.

If you’re looking to grow your coaching in a different setting like schools, community programmes or club play check out our CPD workshops, which offer a great way to develop your coaching for those environments.

What coaching experience do I need?

This course is designed for experienced coaches only. You must have attended an in-person England Squash coaching course and have been an England Squash qualified coach for at least two years. You should be actively coaching groups and individuals.

If you only have  Level 1 coaching certificate, you may be eligible if you have completed an Introduction to Individual Coaching workshop.

Why must I have 2 years' experience?

Coaching is all about learning through doing – the more time you spend on court, the more you grow. That’s why we ask for at least two years of coaching experience before joining this course, so you can bring real examples to reflect on and get the most from the learning.

How does the course work?

This course consists of a mix of e-learning modules, live webinars, four full-day practical sessions and two mentoring sessions. You’ll need to complete the modules and attend the practical sessions and webinars to pass.

In the practical sessions you’ll cover:

  • Technical and tactical principles: Explore key principles and how to apply them effectively.

  • Linking practices to a theme: Build purposeful sessions that connect to your coaching goals.

  • Affecting change: Learn how to help players develop and adapt through effective coaching.

  • Creating engaging sessions: Structure fun, progressive sessions designed to develop your players.

  • Game awareness: Use game-based practices to improve tactical thinking and on-court awareness.

  • Coaching for impact: Coach both individuals and groups with targeted feedback and interventions.

  • Reflective learning: Use reflection as a coaching tool to enhance your practice and player development.

  • Video analysis: Discover how to use video to support player improvement.

  • Strength and conditioning: Understand the physical demands of the game and how to build player fitness.

  • Movement: Develop efficient and effective movement patterns to improve on-court performance.

Below is a sample structure of a course. Please note that webinars and practical sessions may not take place in the exact order shown. Please check your chosen course for the dates and ensure you can attend all sessions before booking.

How long does the course take?

The course typically takes around 7 months to complete. After attending the final mentoring day, you’ll have up to 6 months to finish your final e-learning before your access expires.

How will I be assessed?

You’ll be assessed throughout the course through a combination of e-learning, in-person delivery and engagement with webinars and discussions.
At the end of the course, you’ll be required to complete a workbook and deliver a presentation which are part of your final assessment.

How do I get a DBS check?

If you don’t already hold an enhanced DBS you will need to start the application process by completing the following form: DBS application form

Once you submit this form, England Squash will review and begin your application with our DBS provider, Know Your People. This may take up to five working days. You’ll then receive an email with instructions to complete your application. Please note, it can take up to 60 days from completing the application for the DBS to be granted.

If you already hold an Enhanced DBS check for the child workforce through another organisation and are registered with the DBS Update Service, please do not complete a new application form. Instead, upload your documentation via the compliance section on your learning account. You’ll need the certificate from your original DBS check to complete this process.
What if I can't attend one of the course dates?

Unfortunately, you need to complete all elements of the course before being qualified. Please see our booking terms and conditions for more information about refunds. If you’re unable to attend after booking, please contact coaching@englandsquash.com
